Periods of absence from work

Most absences from work are relatively short and will not normally affect your membership of and benefits under the Main Section. However, there are circumstances where you may be absent for longer periods of time. This could be due to illness, family leave, sabbatical or secondment.

Information about the impact of periods of absence on your membership of and benefits under the Main Section is available from the Administrator of RWE Group, WTW. Visit the contact page for WTW’s details.

Changes to your working hours

If you change from working part-time to full-time or vice versa, your benefits will be calculated to take into account your periods of full and part time working. Information about how your benefits are calculated for periods of part-time working is available from the Administrator of RWE Group, WTW.

If you change from working full-time to part-time you have three months in which to decide how your benefits up to the date of changing to part-time work are calculated. The options are:

  1. Be treated as if you had left the Main Section and then re-joined as a new member at the point you changed to part-time work.

  2. Have both of your periods of membership treated as a single period for the purposes of benefit calculations.

Please ensure you contact the Administrator of RWE Group, WTW to confirm your chosen approach within three months. If you do not make a choice, option 2 will apply.

Changes to your salary

If your salary goes down (other than for disciplinary reasons or as part of a plan to bring your salary into line with a general reduction in salary) you have three months in which to decide whether to continue to pay contributions based on your previous, higher salary. If you do this, account will be taken of that higher pay when calculating your Pensionable Salary for the purposes of your pension and other benefits under the Main Section.

Please ensure you contact the Administrator of RWE Group, WTW to confirm your chosen approach within three months. If you do not make a choice, you will pay contributions based on your new, lower salary and account will be taken of that lower pay when calculating your Pensionable Salary.
