What kind of member am I?

What kind of member am I?
Glossary

In some areas, there are differences depending on whether you are a Contributing Member, a Deferred Member or a Pensioner Member receiving a pension from the Main Section.

It’s worth finding out what kind of member you are, as it will affect which information applies to you.

Show all Hide all

Contributing Member - still working and building up benefits

You are a Contributing Member if you:

  • continue to work for your Employer and

  • are paying contributions into and/or building up benefits in the Main Section.

Deferred Member - opted out or left the Employer

You are a Deferred Member either if you:

  • continue to work for your Employer but have opted-out of being a Contributing Member, or

  • have left your Employer and have not immediately joined another Employer that also permits its employees to be members of the Main Section, and

  • have not yet taken your benefits from the Main Section.

Pensioner Member - receiving a pension

You are a Pensioner Member if you are receiving a pension from the Main Section.

In some areas, there are also differences depending on when you joined the Main Section (or its predecessors). These differences are highlighted throughout the guide. For example, certain benefits apply only to Pre-1988 Members.

If you have transferred in from another ESPS group, you should use the date you joined that other ESPS group (or any predecessor scheme) as your reference date. If you need to check when you joined or left the RWE Group (or a predecessor scheme), please contact the Administrator of RWE Group, WTW.

Does this guide apply to me?

If you:

  • joined one of the predecessors to the Main Section before 1st April 1978 and so are a Pre-1978 Member, and/ or

  • joined the Main Section or one of its predecessors before 31st March 1988 and had ceased to be a Contributing Member and to be employed by an electricity board or a successor company as at that date, and so are a Pre-1988 Leaver

then please contact the Administrator of the RWE Group, WTW, for details of your benefits and options as these may differ in some areas from those set out in this guide.

If you have transferred into the RWE Group from another ESPS group or a different scheme, your benefits and options may also differ in some areas from those set out in this guide. Please contact the Administrator of RWE Group, WTW, who can also provide you with information about your benefits and the options available to you.
